Sebastiano Vinci, 44 years old, Deputy Chief of Public Security

Sebastiano Vinci was a deputy police chief stationed in Rome, at the Primavalle police station. He was assassinated by a terrorist commando composed of three men and one woman, who ambushed him while he was stopped at a traffic light in his car on a street in Rome. He was hit by several bullets and died shortly after at the “Gemelli” hospital. His driver, Officer Pacifico Votto, was severely wounded and underwent multiple surgeries. The attack was claimed by the Red Brigades “March 28th Column” and subsequently also by the Revolutionary Armed Communist Nuclei. A member of the commando, Marina Petrella, was arrested in December 1982 after a shootout with the carabinieri on a Roman bus and was sentenced to life imprisonment; she later escaped to France.
