The terrorists’ ambush
On September 18, 1981, just before 8 o’clock in the morning, while driving to reach the Milan San Vittore prison where he served in the first ray, Sergeant Francesco Rucci fell victim to an attack claimed by “communist nuclei,” a group linked to “Prima Linea.” At least four terrorists participated in the murder, first forcing the sergeant to stop and then shooting him. The attack was linked to the tense atmosphere prevailing in the Milanese penitentiary at the time. The validity of the pursued lead was also confirmed by a flyer which stated that the sergeant was “executed” for his activity at “the first ray of San Vittore… a notorious arm that compels communist vanguards, its prisoners, to torture.” The “maximum-security” first ray of San Vittore was used during trials to house inmates from special prisons.
