Franco Sammarco, 28 years old, State Police Assistant

It was June 8, 1982. In Rome, the patrol car from Villa Glori police station, with State Police assistants Franco Sammarco and Giuseppe Carretta on board, was conducting a routine patrol. On Via Dorando Pietri, in the Flaminio district, the officers noticed a car with three people inside and decided to perform a check.
The occupants turned out to be terrorists from the Nuclei Armati Rivoluzionari (NAR). Under the threat of weapons, they overpowered the policemen. Seeking to strike at the institutions, they brutally ended the lives of the two young officers, who in that moment represented them, executing them mercilessly with a shot to the back of the head. The perpetrator of the murders was Roberto Nistri.
