Costantino Gennaro, 65 years old, retired

The police charge the organized unemployed who have occupied the registry offices of the Municipality, in Piazza Dante. The celere invades and clears the offices and then loads the demonstrators in the square. The charges also involve numerous citizens present in one of the busiest squares of the historic center, causing 34 injuries and one victim. Gennaro Costantino, a militant pensioner of the Pci, dies overwhelmed by a gippone of the celere who is carrying some stopped. Police claim that the vehicle proceeds without the driver, thrown out of the driver’s seat after a skid. There are numerous arrested among the demonstrators, who have defended themselves with stones. The episode represents a quantum leap in the organized unemployed struggle movement that began to develop from the struggles of shipbuilding after the cholera of the summer of 1973.
