He died on July 15 on Viale Lecco in Como, torn apart by the explosion of a bomb he was defusing in front of a pastry shop.
Sergeant Carluccio, one of the best bomb disposal experts of the Milan Police Headquarters, had been called to Como to defuse a series of bombs left overnight in front of several commercial premises in the city by the terrorist group Brigate Operaie per il Comunismo (Note: as a form of protest against the construction of new prisons). Carluccio managed to neutralize all of them, except the last one which exploded, killing him.
Luigi Carluccio was married and the father of an 8-month-old child.
