Pierantonio Castelnuovo. English version

1976
05 September, Lecco
Pierantonio Castelnuovo, 46 years old, worker and trade unionist

In the 70s the territory of Lecco was already erra of ‘ndrangheta, the embryo of what the sentences will tell us a few years later, which had decided to establish the center of its business there and began to impose itself with ferocity.
Pierantonio was a worker engaged in the trade union, a wife, three children and many dreams to realize.
On the evening of September 5, 1976 he is at the Circolo Il Farfallino, in the Castello district of Lecco on the occasion of the festival of unity, an indispensable event for those years and for those like him who had decided which side to be on.
It’s a nice evening of celebration, to spend in joy with your classmates.
But someone decided that that nice atmosphere should be ruined. And so a group of boys begins to annoy those present, provoking them with arrogance.
Pierantonio, always attentive to the respect of others, gives them back good-natured and returns to his evening with family and friends.
It’s a fraction of a second, the provocations become offended and Pierantonio is encerced. Slaps, kicks, a very violent punch in the stomach and Pierantonio is on the ground, he will die shortly after.
In some newspapers of the time his brutal assassination was dismissed with the title: ‘communist worker beaten to death’ and for almost forty years in Lecco Pierantonio he was ‘the brother of the actor Castelnuovo who was killed in a fight’. Nothing else.
Then come the investigations on the ‘ndrangheta in Lecco, the convictions to the bloodthirsty Coco Trovato clan and the first collaborators of justice. And Pierantonio’s name is black and white in the confessions of a clan hitman: Pierantonio Castelnuovo was killed to demonstrate the violence and ferocity of which the Coco Trovato were capable.
There were six of them around Pierantonio but the fatal fist was thrown by Angelo Musolino, at the time not yet twenty years old, brother of the boss Vincenzo and brother-in-law of Franco Coco Trovato.
